Shhhh...be still...hear the lapping of the water as it reaches the shore. Listen to the sound of the wind as it moves through the tall pine trees. Can you hear it? See the ripple of the lake as it cascades into the shoreline. Can you see it? Feel the coolness of the water as it moves through your toes and under your feet. Can you feel it? Inhale and smell the crisp morning air with the hint of evergreen fragrance. Can you smell it?
Sometimes, a change of scenery provides a necessary reset. This was such the case for me when I spent time at the Dorabelle campsite in Shaver Lake, CA. The campgrounds provided the perfect opportunity to practice mindfulness while using my senses. It's something about being in nature and away from the busy world that allows you a moment to pause and reset. When I visit places like this, I always take a picture, which helps me remember the experience. When I feel like I needed pause from my busy schedule, I scroll to my picture of the lake, close my eyes, and remember what I saw, heard, smelled, and felt. Then I exhale and remember that I have every resource I need to accomplish whatever challenge I face.
Remember to take time to breathe and be still.
